The new NeuroVIBE Smovey Rings are available for purchase on this website (the Classic models in green and turquoise are also available. For Somatic Experiencing Practitioners, Scroll down to hear Dr. Peter Levine comment on this latest version of Smovey Rings. If you have any questions about the differences, feel free to message me.
These new Smovey Rings are characterized by a more intense vibration due to its harder properties and more pronounced inner and outer grooves of the spiral tubes. There are also new damping elements inside the rings at each end of the handle. This cushioning prevents the balls from bumping when the swing is reversed and produces a more balanced rolling action.
These two new features of Smovey Rings add to previously described functions. Swinging the rings provide visual, acoustic and tactile stimuli and a unique vibrational frequency which correlates with natural vibrational rhythms in the body. Described by a physical therapist, “The vibrational Hz frequency stimulate our perception of vibration via touch and sensation mechanoreceptors known as the Pacinian Corpuscles. They are found deep in the dermis (subcutaneous fat) and in the capsules of the joints, helping the nervous system gain improved stimulus and increasing stabilization signals that are produced in the joints. By doing this through movement, one is stimulating a dynamic function between the nervous system and brain, while challenging function (Belinda McDonald, PT, DPT, COMT, TPS of Signature Physical Therapy, San Clemente, CA).”
The Smovey NeuroVIBE is a great option for people who have been inactive for a period of time or who are adversely affected by physical limitations and want to begin physical activities and/or exercise. Additionally there is a new small/light model (scroll down to see models) which can be very helpful for this population and particularly good for children. Overall, the NeuroVIBE Smoveys are slightly easier to use and the effects of even short sessions can be felt very rapidly.

In the Somatic Experiencing (SE) community, Smovey Rings have been considered to be an effective tool which help to regulate a person's trauma impacted nervous system. Dr. Peter A. Levine has commented “The Smovey Rings are useful for mobilizing the body in a contained, safe way. They organize energy through sound, movement and rhythm, helping to link the autonomic and somatic (systems)." The effect enhances proprioception (awareness of the body in relation to other objects) and interoception (awareness of internal bodily sensations). This vibrational stimulus supports the functions of the musculoskeletal system and the overall activity of one’s nervous system.
Somatic Experiencing Practitioners may ask the question: Is this new NeuroVIBE Smovey very different than the classic ones they have already purchased? Some SEPs have noted that different generations of Smoveys (all the same Classic model) have felt different from one another, even though not noted as a different model by the Smovey Company. Peter Levine has commented on these "generational" differences, stating that they are all effective! Personally I will say the last few shipments of the Classic Smovey Rings have felt closer to the new NeuroVIBE, with a stronger vibration. I predict the new NeuroVIBE Smoveys will get a favorable response and become an appreciated investment for SEPs' toolkit.
Smovey NeuroVIBE - small/light
This is an excellent addition - a smaller and lighter model with 3 balls (instead of the usual 4) and a soft foam rubber grip. Excellent as a device for children or individuals with small hands, or for people who may have compromised strength.
Smovey NeuroVIBE - Classic
The classic smovey NeuroVIBE, featuring 4 balls and a soft foam rubber grip, is ideal for most adults and older persons in the field of movement targeted for the development and improvement of the functions of the musculoskeletal and nervous system.
smovey neuroVIBE - Aqua (I will not be carrying this model for the time being)
The waterproof design of smovey neuroVIBE - Aqua also makes it suitable for use in all types of water settings. It features an ergonomic, firmer and quick-drying grip and 4 balls. Very easy to disinfect with standard disinfectants.
