I have been in practice as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker/Psychotherapist for over 35 years in Los Angeles and the last 10 years in San Clemente, California. This life work continues to be a joyous labor of love.
I believe most of us are on a journey to find basic security, purpose and fulfillment. In the words of psychologist and Holocaust survivor Viktor E. Frankl, ". . .the last of the human freedoms is the ability to chose one's attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one's own way." The wisdom in these words is a philosophy which resonates deeply.
I appreciate the meaningful moments as much as possible. I strive for courage when obstacles are tough and grapple with the hard task of letting go (not giving up) when it's necessary. Another Viktor Frankl quote reflects this: "When we are no longer able to change a situation - we are challenged to change ourselves." If I practice this well enough, I am okay.
As a therapist, I endeavor to understand with attention and compassion the issues that bring a person in. I offer my knowledge, skills and experience to help others discover their own unique approach for healing and growth.
Throughout my career as a "talk" therapist, I have always regarded the experience of the body to be a crucial part of the therapy. As I worked primarily with cognitive and psychodynamic perspectives, I would incorporate mindfulness, breathing and some movement. Over the last several years I have studied and incorporated Somatic Experiencing (SE™), which offers an expanded understanding of how our nervous system responds to trauma and accumulated stress. With increased tools to address the physiological roots of the trauma/stress cycle, SE aims to discharge "stuck" energy and restore rhythm, balance and stabilization to a dysregulated autonomic nervous system.
I unexpectedly became a licensed re-seller of these unique rings for movement and exercise because I love how they make me feel. My intention is to share information and my experience using them and sell them when requested (in other words, no sales pitch).
With a swinging motion, steel balls roll in a grooved tube and create a vibrational frequency which synchronizes with natural rhythms in the body. In their simplicity, they are profoundly effective in producing health, wellness and fitness benefits.
The Smovey rings help to connect movement with awareness of body sensations and are thusly utilized as a tool in Somatic Experiencing therapy. Check out the section with video and reviews, and if interested, please contact me for more information or to order.
